Morning Keynote by: Dr. Kimberly Schonert-Reichl
Social-Emotional Development in Young Children http://educ.ubc.ca/research/ksr/schonert-reichl.html

~ For more than 20 years, Dr. Schonert-Reichl’s research has focused on the social and emotional development of children and adolescents with a particular emphasis on identifying the processes and mechanisms that foster children’s positive human traits including empathy, altruism, compassion, and resiliency.
~ Dr. Schonert-Reichl of UBC is currently investigating the effectiveness of classroom-based universal social and emotional learning (SEL) promotion programs—including the Roots of Empathy and MindUp, a program that integrates social and emotional learning and mindfulness-based education. She is also conducting interdisciplinary research in collaboration with neuroscientists and psychobiologists, examining the relation of executive functions and biological processes to children’s social and emotional development.

Choice of two 75 minute afternoon session themes:
~ Creating Responsive and Intentional Learning Environments for All Young Children
~ Visual strategies for supporting self-regulation
~ Autism in young children
~ FASD in young children
~ Sensory and Motor Development
~ Speech and Language Development

Registration: $70.00 (+$3.50 PST) FOR 1 DAY      Deadline August 10, 2013
